THE STORY OF QUIGLEY
Some would say it’s a phenomenon, some a mystery, but sometime in the last million years, a cluster of hot blue and extremely luminous stars formed in the constellation Taurus. Not just any chance alignment, studies show the stars in this cluster to be physically related, meaning they move across the sky in the same direction, at the same rate. Chances of this alignment are roughly 1 and 500,000.
When you look to the winter night sky from the northern hemisphere of Earth, there will be no question of to which cluster I am bestowing this prestige. In Greek mythology, the stars are referred to as the Seven Sisters: daughters of Atlas, a God who holds the heavens over his shoulders. The bible refers to them as Khima (Amos 5:8) and in ancient islamic literature, they are known as al-Thurayya. But today, the stars are most commonly known as Pleiades.
For a million years, we have tried to bottle the essence of the seven star cluster and extract its mystery. Trust me, pin pointing Pleiades’s story has been no walk in the park. But in 1990, something strange occurred. The pattern of seven dots appeared again in the form of a birth mark on the back of a baby girl born in the month of April, to two proud parents of Irish and Swedish decent.
Her name was Quigley, but to say she was from out of this world, would be a gross overstatement. In fact, her origins laid somewhere between Wilmar and Golden Valley, Minnesota. Her childhood consisted of experiences any normal 20th century female would have. She played dress up and hop scotch, and ran through sprinklers with neighbour kids in the yard. She loved her dolls, her blanket, and most of all singing “Baby Beluga.” Soon, a great love emerged between the girl, sound, and silence. Music became a language so rooted in her being, some said all she could exhale was melodies.
On the 23rd day of February, in the year Twenty Twelve, for the first time, we bring those melodies to you.
